Spring Lecture Series April-June

The USGBC Idaho Spring Lecture Series will take place at the Idaho Associated General Contractor’s training center at 1649 W. Shoreline Dr in Boise on each first Thursday at Noon April through June. Topics and speakers will be announced soon. We are pleased to be partnering with Idaho AGC and hosting the lunch time lecture series at their great training facility.
There is no lunch lecture scheduled for today March 7th.

Plan now to attend the 2012 Idaho Energy and Green Building Conference

June 20-22 at the Boise Centre
USGBC Idaho is again partnering with the Association of Idaho Cities to present the annual Energy and Green Building Conference. This year it will be held in conjunction with the Association of Idaho Cities (AIC) Annual Conference and will be a great opportunity for energy efficiency and green building education as well as networking with building professionals and leaders from local jurisdictions from across the state.
Conference sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, including discussion of issues most affecting the adoption of green strategies in commercial and residential construction, renovation and building operation, retrofitting green, energy code inspections, the value of energy codes, the benefits of energy efficiency and certified green homes and energy hot topics in Idaho and the Northwest.

Ketchum City Council Passes Green Building Code

Ketchum City Council approved a mandatory green building code applying to new residential construction projects which encourages high efficiency, healthy buildings. The Code will be go into effect on May 16th, 2012.
Based on the National Green Building Standard, the code will address Site Design, Resource Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Operations and Maintenance. The adoption of the code is the product of nearly two years of research and public outreach.
Ketchum is the first jurisdiction in Idaho to implement a mandatory green building code.

USGBC Idaho 2012 Board Members Elected

USGBC Idaho Chapter members have elected three new board members and four returning board members to be leaders of the organization and bring their skills to bear on the green building movement in Idaho. We appreciate these individuals for their dedication to green building in Idaho and for stepping up to provide their ideas and energy to move the Idaho Chapter forward in 2012. Here is the slate of newly elected candidates and if you’d like to met them you should join us at next week’s Green LEEDers event at the Idaho AGC.
Angela Comish-
Principle at Engineering and Waste Solutions llc. Angie has been active with the chapter through our Programming and Events committee and helped organize this year’s Idaho Energy and Green Building Conference. She brings great energy, experience and knowledge of LEED to the board.
Dustin Lilya-
Senior Mechanical Engineer at DC Engineering. Dustin has great enthusiasm and has a wealth of professional engineering experience including developing environmentally friendly refrigeration systems for Supervalu.
Mariel Platt-
Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Hailey, ID. Mariel’s experience creating and leading the Sustainable Building and Planning Advisory Committee for the City of Hailey to develop a green building code will be a valuable asset to the board.
Leif Elgethun-
Senior VP of Development for Site Based Energy. Leif has been an active leader on the board and currently serves as the vice chair. His knowledge of green building, renewable energy and public policy will continue to help move the chapter forward.
Suzie Hall-
President of Cornerstone Design. Suzie has been an active board member and has extensive LEED project experience including the Banner Bank Building and many others her firm has worked on. She brings great passion, experience, and knowledge to USGBC Idaho’s work.
Jane Suggs-
Owner of JBS Enterprises a land development and planning consulting firm. Jane is passionate and active in the community and has been reelected to the board for good reason. She has been leading the Finance and Fundraising committee and her experience with the development process is a great asset for the board.
Tristan Van Slyke-
AEC Solutions Specialist for PacifiCAD Inc. Tristan has been an active board member and as chair of the Emerging Professionals committee is working to mentor and network with young professionals in green building sectors. His leadership and design skills are a great fit for the board.
