Celebrate Completion of Hailey’s LEED Building
Monday, January 7th, 2013
The Welcome Center, the second building in Hailey to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) designation, is complete and ready to show off. The City of Hailey will open the doors to the public with an open house. This family friendly event will include special thanks from Mayor Haemmerle, information on green building in Idaho presented by the U.S. Green Building Council – Idaho Chapter Executive Director, Charlie Woodruff, light refreshments, and an activity for the kids. The City would like to thank those that helped design and construct the building. That includes a number of local artists, green building experts, contractors, and suppliers. Prior to the open house, there will be a LEED discussion and tour of the building, for those in the design and construction industry.
The Welcome Center was built and designed to conserve water, energy, reduce waste, improve indoor air quality for the building occupants, and use more sustainable building materials. It also includes work from four different artists. The Welcome Center is the future home of the Hailey Chamber of Commerce and an interpretive exhibit that will showcase some of Hailey’s rich history (completion expected in March).
The City hopes the public will join in celebrating the completion of the building’s construction and learn about all the things planned for this little red, but very “green” building. The open house will be on January 17, 2013, from 5:30-6:30pm. Prior to the open house is the LEED discussion and tour from 5-5:30pm. Both events will be held at the Welcome Center, 781 South Main Street in Hailey.
