Introduction to Photovoltaics
7pm to 9pm, Thursday April 11
Univ of Idaho Integrated Design Lab
306 S. 6th Boise (6th and Myrtle)
We are blessed with terrific annual solar resource here in the Treasure Valley. Residential photovoltaic (PV) electrical systems can provide much of the yearly electrical energy for many homeowners. We’ll start with why PV systems make sense for the environmentally conscious homeowner. We will explain how PV systems work. We will cover system size, location, and orientation rules of thumb. We will explore PV technology: PV panels, system design, and inverters. We will talk about Net Metering and the changes proposed by Idaho Power. We will take a look at residential PV as an investment and close with some things to remember.
Thanks to these series sponsors:

DEEP GREEN HOMES IN THE TREASURE VALLEY
Wednesday, April 11th, 2012
If you’ve pictured yourself living in a sustainable, super-efficient home, we’d like to talk to you!
Sustainable, Zero Net Energy homes are being built in markets around the country, at surprisingly affordable prices. Keeping the spirit of Idaho and the Boise Valley, what do people want to see when it comes to Deep Green Homes in this market? How big are they? What features are must haves? What level of finish should they have? Where should they be located?
USGBC-Idaho Chapter and Gary Christensen, Developer of the Banner Bank Building, are conducting a series of Discussion Groups between April 24th and May 5th to find answers to these questions. An Eco-charette will be held the end of May to explore how to build these Deep Green Homes, and where the bottlenecks are that run up the costs locally. The results will be shared with the home building community and the public in a variety of forums.
If you are willing to share your ideas, and hear what other people are thinking about Deep Green Homes and would like to participate register here!
Please share this invitations others you know who would be interested. Thanks!

SAVE Act: How It Affects Builders/Remodelers
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012
Check out this free webinar brought to you by GreenBuilderMag:
Ron Jones, C.R. Herro, Chad Ray
Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 9:00 AM Pacific/12:00 PM Eastern
In our inaugural webinar of the SAVE Act series, we examined all aspects of the SAVE Act. Now, we want to narrow our focus to the effects on specific industries. This edition will concentrate on builders and remodelers.
The goal of the SAVE Act is to provide lower rate mortgage financing for cost effective energy improvements. It would enable homeowners, builders and remodelers to invest in energy efficient materials and practices. This in turn would allow for the recovery of the cost of energy efficient upgrades. Finally, future buyers and lenders would be able to account for the monthly savings produced by these measures.
By removing these barriers for both homeowners and the industry, the effects of the SAVE Act should increase the supply of and demand for energy-efficient new homes and improvements, putting people in the construction, remodeling and manufacturing sectors back to work.
On Wednesday, April 4th at 12pm ET, Ron Jones will be joined by builders C.R. Herro and Chad Ray. Together, they’ll explore how the bill would affect the closing process for new and existing homes, and how it incentivizes the building and/or retrofitting of energy efficient homes. They’ll also take your questions… live!
