Residential Energy Efficiency State Tax Deduction passes Idaho Legislature
Wednesday, March 28th, 2012
Was your house built before 2002? If so you are now eligible to receive a state tax deduction for energy efficiency upgrades to your home above code performance including insulation, windows, storm windows, heating ducts, and air sealing such as weather stripping and caulking.
House Bill 485 passed the Idaho State Senate on a vote of 31-4 yesterday after passing the House unanimously earlier in the session. This bill will have a positive impact on Idaho’s economy and energy security and by creating jobs for our local economies and increasing the energy efficiency of Idaho homes. HB485 provides an effective means of tax relief for homeowners because it doublesthe number of homeowners eligible for the residential energy efficiency tax deduction by making homes built before 2002 eligible for the program.
There were many people involved in the successful passage of this legislation but we would particularly like to thank Rep. Wendy Jaquet and Rep. JohnVander Woude who co-sponsored the bill through the House and Senator Curt McKenzie for his testimony on behalf of the bill in committee and for carrying it on the Senate floor for a vote.
