Green Apple Day of Service- Farmer’s Market Kids Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

On Sept. 29, 2012, the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council will host the first ever Green Apple Day of Service. For one day, advocates from across the country and around the world will come together in support of healthy, sustainable schools by taking real action in their communities.

The USGBC Idaho Chapter Green Schools Advocacy Committee is participating in the Green Apple Day of Service on Sept. 29, Saturday, by sponsoring an environmentally savvy scavenger hunt for kids at the Capital City Public Market in Downtown Boise and giving away environmentally inspired prizes.

At this event, the committee will also be launching the first ever Idaho Green Schools Challenge. The competition will run from September 2012 to February 2013. Entire schools, individual grades, environmental clubs, or individual classrooms can register their project, obtain a dedicated mentor from USGBC Idaho Chapter, and submit their project for the chance to win an award/trophy and cash prize.

The emphasis is on creating a no-cost or low-cost project that can make a measurable and significant beneficial impact to their school/community.The USGBC Idaho Chapter Green Schools Advocacy Committee is participating in the Green Apple Day of Service on Sept. 29, Saturday, by sponsoring an environmentally savvy scavenger hunt for kids at the Capital City Public Market in Downtown Boise and giving away environmentally inspired prizes.

DEEP GREEN HOMES IN THE TREASURE VALLEY

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

If you’ve pictured yourself living in a sustainable, super-efficient home, we’d like to talk to you!

Sustainable, Zero Net Energy homes are being built in markets around the country, at surprisingly affordable prices.  Keeping the spirit of Idaho and the Boise Valley, what do people want to see when it comes to Deep Green Homes in this market?  How big are they?  What features are must haves?  What level of finish should they have? Where should they be located?

USGBC-Idaho Chapter and Gary Christensen, Developer of the Banner Bank Building, are conducting a series of Discussion Groups between April 24th and May 5th to find answers to these questions.  An Eco-charette will be held the end of May to explore how to build these Deep Green Homes, and where the bottlenecks are that run up the costs locally.  The results will be shared with the home building community and the public in a variety of forums.

If you are willing to share your ideas, and hear what other people are thinking about Deep Green Homes and would like to participate register here!

Please share this invitations others you know who would be interested.  Thanks!
