LEED-NC Technical Review Workshop - May 27 in WY

Green Globes - Good or Bad?
While this interactive, Web-based green building assessment protocol offers some appealing features, it is not consensus based and caters to special interests. Lurking behind the program is support from a coalition of industry groups long critical of the USGBC for its policy of barring trade association membership. A Rainforest Action Network report confirms that Weyerhaeuser building products and new homes marketed in the United States as "environmentally friendly" use wood clear-cut without consent from treaty-protected indigenous territory within Canada's treatened Boreal Forest. Read the full article>>

Cascadia POE Shows Encouraging Results
A new post-occupancy evaluation (POE) from the Cascadia Region Green Building Council shows generally positive energy performance and user satisfaction with the region's LEED certified buildings. The January 2006 report examined 11 of the region's 21 LEED certified buildings that have been occupied for at least one year as of September 2005. Read more>>
Submittal Stamp for the Designer
About a year ago, a LEED Gold Certified project came to closeout and the client began to move into the building, the necessary application documents were compiled for submission for certification. What a shock it was for the building program team when they were told after an application audit that the job documentation did not support the application information. As a result, the project failed to achieve its Gold certification. What went wrong?>>
Greening of America's Campuses
The largest university in Oregon is camouflaged, its many parts spread among the tight urban canyons of downtown Portland. But on building at Portland State University stands out. It has a roof of grass, plants and gravel, like a slice of the high desert on the wet side of Oregon. It is 10 stories high, and inside, all the mechanical organs work with so little waste - pumping water, air and electricity to the 400 residents of the dormitory and, on lower floors, to classrooms.
