Autum in the WRV

Autum in the WRV

As Autumn leaves change and we begin thinking about life indoors during the coming months, our thoughts wander to how we can make our indoor experiences more comfortable. Members of the Wood River Valley Branch of USGBC Idaho have been active this month helping locals in the valley consider sustainable options for their homes.

USGBC Idaho Board Members Rebecca Bundy and Mariel Platt teamed up with the Environmental Resource Center of Sun Valley to cosponsor a green building speaker series, a green homes tour and an energy efficiency workshop.

On Thursday, October 24, John Reuter of Greenworks LLC delivered a free, public presentation on the how-to’s and whys of conducting a residential energy audit in the home, while on Saturday, Tim Carter of Idaho Mountain Builders opened the doors of his LEED Gold certified home as part of the Green Homes Tour in Ketchum. The green discussions wrap up on Tuesday, October 29 with a Renewable Energy & Efficiency Workshop at the College of Southern Idaho Community Campus, Room 301 in Hailey.

Business Case for Green Developers

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

Are you a developer interested in how green development is changing the market?  Or are you an architect or engineer, curious about how to leverage the financial benefits of sustainable design to achieve higher project goals?  This week we kick off the 2013 Fall Lecture Series with Ashley Lemon from ARES Real Estate Services out of Golden, Colorado.

He will be providing the developers perspective on the business case for green developers.  The talk will feature projects procured by their full-service, vertically-integrated development firm, while showing financial numbers and statistics that prove an increase in project value due to sustainable and energy efficient design.

RSVP HERE for the live lecture, or remember that you can register for the Webinar HERE.

Also, USGBC Idaho is hosting a free public reception after the talk at CTA Architects just two blocks away from Idaho Power at 1185 Grove Street in Boise. Anyone and everyone interested in continuing the conversation with Ashley is invited to attend and join in the conversation. We will offer free beer, wine and light appetizers.

LEED in Motion – People And Progress

Thursday, August 29th, 2013

USGBC recently released LEED in Motion – People and Progress, the first report in an inaugural LEED in Motion series. People And Progress quantifies recent growth in LEED certification and accreditation for buildings and people and provides infographics that capture the current state of professional LEED usage.

Highlights of the report indicate that as much as 55% of all commercial and institutional construction in the US may be green by 2016, up from 44% in 2012, and that more than 4.3 million people currently live and work in LEED certified buildings. Additionally, more than 6.2 million people experience a LEED certified project every day. These numbers exemplify the strength and momentum of the green building movement across the country.

Much of the aforementioned growth is attributable to USGBC’s 13,000 member organizations, ranging from Fortune 100 corporations to small neighborhood businesses, representing 13 million employees and $1.8 trillion in combined revenue.

People and Progress is the first of three reports in the LEED in Motion series; Places and Policies and Impacts and Innovation are scheduled to be released later in the year.

The full report can be downloaded here.
