Selena O’Neal is a Certified Energy Manager and a LEED Accredited Professional. She spent 17 years in the electric utility industry before joining Ada County as an Energy Specialist in 2003. She works closely with the Director of Operations on Ada County’s buildings and construction projects. She is responsible for implementing the County’s annual Energy Conservation and Resource Plan and tracks the savings to the County in terms of reduced energy costs and other savings.
Selena has been a member of US Green Building Council since 2003. She served as the Secretary of the USGBC Idaho Chapter in 2006 and currently serves as the Treasurer. She participated on the team for the Ada County Courthouse LEED-EB project which earned a Silver certification in 2005making it Idaho’s first LEED Certified Green Building. Ada County has since earned 2 other LEED certifications with 2 more in process. In addition to LEED, Selena also uses ENERGY STAR as a tool to ensure the County buildings operate as energy-efficiently as possible.
Selena was a finalist in the 2006 Betterbricks Awards for her work in helping Ada County meets its annual energy conservation goals. She is currently preparing Ada County’s first ever emissions inventory to help the County quantify its impact on the environment and develop an action plan to counteract it. Her project load at Ada County is very broadfrom recycling and alternative transportation programs to the sale of methane gas for a 3.2 MW Landfill Gas to Energy facility. Selena enjoys her work and being able to help make a difference in Ada County and for the global community.
