As an environmental engineer with over 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Rebecca Mirsky’s professional interests involve the environmental aspects of construction activities. Chief among those interests are high performance or ‘green’ construction methods and materials, both in commercial/industrial and residential applications. Rebecca believes these will become increasingly important in the future, not only for environmental reasons, but also for their economic and social implications. Other specific interests are reduction and recycling of construction waste; erosion control and stormwater management; dust and noise control; and sustainable land use planning.
It is her goal as an engineer and educator to make environmental concerns as important to project management as safety and quality control. This can only be achieved by demonstrating that environmental protection measures have an identifiable cost benefit.
Finally, while Rebecca is equally dedicated to the success of all students, she has a very strong interest in encouraging the participation and success of women students in the Construction Management program specifically, and in the College of Engineering in general. As such, it is important to her to be able to serve as a mentor and role model for women who wish to pursue the non-traditional field of Construction Management.
