4:30pm – lecture
5:30pm  – appetizers and no-host bar
University of Idaho Boise, 322 E. Front Street, Legacy Pointe
Boise, Idaho

How do you use place-making to win economically, to become a place that people want to move to
or back to, and will not move away from when a better job offer comes along?  How do you create a
“brand” for your place that will be so memorable it becomes a point of pride for local people?  How
do you prioritize investments to get the most out of your public dollars, so you become “the
community of choice”, the place that people want to move to?

Rod will discuss how other places have crafted winning strategies that build and reinforce their sense
of place and strengthen their community.  You will find Rod smart, articulate and thought-provoking.
An urban strategist and revitalization expert, Rod has worked with some of the savviest cities and
most sophisticated investors.  Come prepared for a lively discussion of how to move Boise
forward economically.

Rod Stevens is an urban strategist and real estate consultant specializing in revitalization.  Based on
Bainbridge Island, WA, he has more than 25 years of experience in real estate planning, investment,
and development, much of this with sophisticated investors.  His particular expertise includes
development strategy for downtowns and center cities, with an increasing emphasis on
town/ gown joint development, as well as the revitalization of commercial corridors.
