Inaugural Natural Talent Design Competition Winners
Boise, Idaho August 13, 2009 – Entries in a design competition presented by the Emerging Green Builders (EGB) Idaho were on display, August 6th, at the Integrated Design Lab, in downtown Boise. The inaugural Natural Talent Design Competition, open to university students and individuals with five years or less experience in the building industry, involves design of a Habitat for Humanity sustainable prototype house.
The EGB Idaho, a standing committee of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Idaho Chapter, hosted the local competition. The winning design will compete against 25 other winners from design competitions around the nation for the national award at Greenbuild, the USGBC’s Annual Green Building Conference and Expo, which will be held in November 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The challenge included designing a Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity prototype house that proves to be sustainable, repeatable, and affordable. Competitors were judged based on the following criteria:
- Conceptual design and program fulfillment: how the project’s vision meets the provided requirements
- Integration of green design strategies and applicability to LEED criteria
- Creativity in process, design, and innovation
- Engagement of environmental, economic, and social aspects of program and site
- Overall energy reduction and its documentation
The Emerging Green Builders group is a coalition of students and young professionals who share a common vision of promoting the green building movement and its future leaders. The membership is made up of students, architects, engineers, interior designers, developers, landscape architects, and other industry professionals committed to building sustainably.
